Natural Stone

Calacatta marble, travertine, slate, and quartzite — installed with the precision these materials demand. Natural stone is unforgiving. We don't make mistakes.

JL Tile & Stone provides expert natural stone installation services across Monmouth and Ocean County, NJ. Natural stone is fundamentally different from manufactured tile — each slab has unique veining, porosity, and structural characteristics that require specialized handling. We work with Calacatta marble, Carrara marble, travertine, slate, quartzite, limestone, and granite. Our natural stone services include bookmatching for continuous vein patterns, honing and polishing on-site, and proper sealing for long-term protection. We understand expansion rates, moisture sensitivity, and the specific thinset requirements for each stone type. Whether it's a bookmatched Calacatta marble shower wall or a honed travertine floor, JL Tile & Stone treats every natural stone installation as a one-of-a-kind project — because it is.

Why Choose JL Tile & Stone for Natural Stone

01

Bookmatching Expertise

We carefully bookmatch marble slabs to create continuous vein patterns across walls and floors — a technique that separates premium installations from standard work.

02

Material-Specific Methods

Every stone requires different thinset, different sealing, and different cutting techniques. We use white thinset on light marble, epoxy on glass mosaic, and rapid-set on time-sensitive projects.

03

Sealing & Protection

We apply professional-grade penetrating sealers to all natural stone installations. We'll also teach you the maintenance schedule to keep your stone looking perfect for years.

04

Stone Yard Relationships

We have direct relationships with stone yards across Monmouth and Ocean County and can source premium slabs at competitive prices — often saving our clients 15-20% on materials.

Natural Stone FAQ

Is marble a good choice for bathrooms?

Yes, with proper sealing and maintenance. Marble is softer and more porous than porcelain, so it requires annual sealing and prompt cleanup of acidic spills. But nothing matches the visual warmth and luxury of real marble in a bathroom.

What's the difference between Calacatta and Carrara marble?

Calacatta has bolder, more dramatic veining with warm gold tones on a bright white background. Carrara has softer, more subtle gray veining on a slightly blue-gray white. Calacatta is rarer and typically 2-3x the cost of Carrara.

How often does natural stone need to be sealed?

Most natural stone should be sealed every 12-18 months, depending on the stone type and location. High-traffic areas and shower walls may need more frequent sealing. We provide specific care instructions with every installation.
